According to home ministry sources, the PMO had directly asked the IB director to look into the matter.

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has concluded after an in-depth forensic and technical examination that “planted adhesives” in the finance minister’s office were nothing more than “chewing gum” in contrast to the Central Board of Direct Taxes claim that there were tiny devices in the office, which were pasted and then pulled out.

According to home ministry sources, the PMO had directly asked the IB director to look into the matter. “PMO directly called up Rajiv Mathur, then IB director, to probe the matter. The home ministry was not kept in the loop. An in-depth investigation by IB found nothing substantial,” said a senior MHA official.

Pranab Mukherjee also said that an IB investigation found ‘nothing’.
