International youth camp at Sabarmati Ashram

Gandhian scholars, experts, activists and educationists to participate

Amidst the news of terror turmoil in Afghanistan and the celebration of Holi in our country, Gandhi Ashram will welcome 25 participants from 12 South East Asian countries on March 1 for a week-long camp on non-violence and tolerance. Participants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, China, Cambodia, Philippines, East Timor, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Afghanistan will participate in the youth camp.

Gandhian scholars, experts like Prof Tridip Suhrud, Prof Sudarshan Iyengar, SN Subba Rao, Rajendra Khimani, and social activists like Prakash N Shah, Ila Pathak, and P K Laheri, former chief secretary of Gujarat state, educationists and former bureaucrats will be talking and discussing with the participants. Tariq Ali - freedom fighter of Bangladesh will also participate in the event.

Amrut Modi, secretary of Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya, Gandhi Ashram said, "This will be the fourth international youth camp on peace and tolerance. Religious intolerance is the dominant issue. So the theme is the acceptance of 'otherness' of other people in the society."
