‘It’s now happening’: Sonia Gandhi hints Rahul might take over as Congress President soon

On Friday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi hinted that her son Rahul could soon be elevated to the post of party chief.  When asked when he will take over, she said: “You have been asking this for so many years and it's now happening”

Punjab Congress Committee on Friday passed a resolution to appoint party vice-president Rahul Gandhi as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president.
Yesterday, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Congress Committees unanimously passed resolution to appoint Rahul Gandhi as AICC president.

Sonia Gandhi’s comments came at a function to launch former President Pranab Mukherjee’s book --'The coalition years.
On October 11, working committee of the Maharashtra and Haryana Congress unanimously passed a proposal about the same.

Earlier on October 7, the Delhi unit of the AICC passed a resolution requesting vice president Rahul to take over as party president.
Recently, reports had been doing the rounds that Rahul might take over as party president by the end of this month.
State presidents of the Congress party will be asked to file nomination papers for the post of president either in state capitals or at the Congress headquarters.
The Central Election Committee of the Congress Party has reviewed the preparations for the elections with the returning officer.
