Bringing a twist to the allegations that she was gang-raped by four youth, the diploma student of Nirma University on Tuesday told Sarkhej police that she had not been gang-raped but only raped by her friend.
Sarkhej police inspector NS Malek said, "The girl has alleged that she was raped only by Vinay Gaur, her boyfriend, and that it was not a gang-rape. The girl and Vinay were friends for the last nine months." Malek said investigation into the allegations was on and they had arrested Vinay and his friend Shivo.
According to the girl's statement to police, the girl had gifted a gold jewellery set (of about 3-3.5 tolas) to Vinay. The boy had told her that he would invest this and double the money.
On April 9, when they were at college, the girl demanded her jewellery set back. To this, Vinay replied that he had given it to one of his friends and that she would have to accompany him to get the set back.
He then took her to Rosewood Resort on SG Highway, where he booked room no 103 and raped her. Vinay then called up his two friends, who came there but left immediately after meeting him.
The girl, meanwhile, told Vinay that she wanted to go home. Vinay threatened her that he would not return her gold set and would kill her. Frightened, the girl had no other way than to stay back with him in the resort room.
When she woke up around 3:00 am, she found herself naked. She threatened Vinay of filing a police complaint against him. In retaliation, Vinay trimmed the hair of her head with scissors and took away her mobile SIM card. He then locked her up and went to college the next day - April 10.
When he returned from college, he called up his friend Shivo who arrived on his bike. The trio - Vinay, Shivo and the girl - went to Chandkheda on Shivo's bike and there the two boys forcibly made her swallow a contraceptive bill. From there, they went to Ellisbridge, where Vinay and Shivo asked the girl to jump into the river and commit suicide. But she refused to do so.
Then the duo took her to Kalupur railway station. Afraid of the police bandobast at the station, they went to Paldi and took food before leaving the girl near APMC market at Vasna. They asked her to tell her parents that she had decided to run away from home and was planning to go to railway station but could not gather courage.
The Police Control Room (PCR) van, on night patrol, picked her up and took her to Sarkhej police station. Later, Sarkhej police handed over the girl to her parents. The next day, when the girl was asked about the gold jewellery set by her parents, she broke down and narrated the entire incident.
Sarkhej police have recovered the girl's hair, which Vinay had trimmed, from the resort room.
Meanwhile, Nirma University vice-chancellor NV Vasani said, "The varsity has set up a committee of teachers to probe the incident. The boy has been suspended from the university."
