MUMBAI: Bollywood item girl Rakhi Sawant has been booked in an obscenity case for her gestures and skimpy costume at a stage show in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra.
"A case under Sections 110, 112 and 170 of the Bombay Police Act has been registered for indecent behaviour and gestures," Superintendent of Police Sukhwinder Singh said on the phone from Kolhapur.
Sawant performed in a skimpy costume at Kolhapur on May 18 as a brand ambassador for a beer, inviting the ire of police.
"The performance and her gestures were leading to a law and problem, as a result of which we asked the organizer to stop the show. They complied with our orders," Singh
said.
Sawant, however, was unperturbed. "So what if people call me an item girl? I like it," she said.
"I have not received any notice or intimation from the police in the case," Sawant, who was on her way to Solapur for another stage show, said over the phone.
"The costumes I wore at the Kolhapur show were made for me by the organiser and featured the brand name," she said.
"However, I may not wear the organiser's costumes at Solapur and instead stick to my own costumes, which include a jacket but not a skirt like the one I wore at Kolhapur."
The Kolhapur show was organised by the Highwords Group of Companies and the organiser, Gaurav Thakur, has been booked along with Sawant.
