Jaganmohan Reddy is said to be getting ready to form a political party. Though details of the party, including its name, are still under wraps, he is expected to make an announcement once he finishes a round of meetings with his aides in the next few days.
What is important now is to see which direction Jagan’s political career takes.
Jaganmohan was elected to parliament in May 2009 in his first attempt. His father YSR used to represent Pulivendula in Kadapa district in the assembly. However, after YSR’s death on September 2, 2009, his widow Vijayalakshmi got elected from Pulivendula.
Now, Jagan is said to be keen on having a stint in the assembly to strengthen his career. So, he might contest from Pulivendula instead of Kadapa whenever bypolls are held. Bypolls for Kadapa constituency and Pulivendula constituency would be in the next six months. According to sources, Jagan would contest from Pulivendula and either his mother or sister Sharmila would contest from Kadapa.
Interestingly, sources in the Congress are apprehensive about the elections being held as per schedule.
“The change in political equations after Jagan’s resignation indicate the beginning of such changes in the state. Once the Sri Krishna Committee submits its report on statehood to Telangana on December 31, the political situation in the state will change.
That is when it has to be decided whether the atmospehere is conducive for conducting polls,” the source said. But, senior leaders in the Congress are doubtful whether Jagan would be able to hold on to the YSR sympathy factor.
