Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a probe into the recent killing of a civilian allegedly in exchange of fire between militants and security forces in Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
The probe into the killing of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, which took place in Kalampora village on January 24, was ordered by rural development minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, an official spokesman said here today.
Sagar after inaugurating the district level NREGA awareness camp at Pulwama yesterday, expressed his deep sorrow over the killing of Mir and directed District Development Commissioner Mohammad Afzal to conduct the investigation in the incident.
While the police claimed that Mir died after he was caught in a crossfire between militants and security forces, local residents staged massive demonstrations alleging that the father of three was killed by security forces while using him as a human shield during the encounter which ended with holed up militants fleeing the besieged village.
The minister also directed the Commissioner to provide immediate relief to the bereaved family.
"Gun has no value in the present day civilised world and no religion allows killing of innocents," Sagar said and urged security agencies to ensure that no civilian is harassed during any operation.
He appealed the separatists and militant organisations to adopt the path of negotiation.
