In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly drugged and hanged her nine-year-old son to grab property, which her late husband had transferred to him at Thalodi village in Samba district of Jammu.
Shubam was reported missing by his mother in April. Following an intense search, the police recovered a skeleton from a nearby field. Medical examination of the femur bone confirmed that the skeleton was that of Shubam.
During the investigation, police found that before his death, Shubham’s father had transferred his property to his son. His mother Veena Devi, 35, and her alleged paramour Dharshan Kumar decided to kill Shubam so that Veena would inherit the property, police said.
“We have converted the inquest into the FIR and the deceased’s mother and her paramour have been arrested,” said Israr Khan, SSP, Samba.
On the fateful day, Shubham was drugged by Dharshan in front of his mother, and the two took him to another room where he was hanged, police sources said. The duo later dumped the body in the fields to avoid detection. “To cover up their crime the mother lodged a police complaint,” said a police source.
Khan said that they are also trying to find out if there are more people who might have abetted the crime.
