Darshana Jardosh and CR Patil, the newly elected MPs from Surat and Navsari respectively, on Wednesday lashed out at the Congress-led UPA government for its failure on various fronts.
Talking to reporters at Surat circuit house, Jardosh said, "The UPA government has fared very badly so far, be it in controlling food prices or internal security. The prices of food items have shot up in the last few weeks. A drought is looming large over the country, but the government appears ineffective in dealing with the situation."
The MP from Navsari, CR Patil described the India-Pak joint statement as a blunder.
"The mention of Balochistan in the joint statement at Sharm el-Sheikh was a major blunder of the Manmohan Singh government and a dilution of our stand on the issue. This is likely to haunt us in the long run," Patil said.
Both the MPs, for whom this was the first media briefing since being elected in May, stressed that they were committed to Surat's growth. We have raised several key issues of Surat in the Parliament so far, and will continue to work for the city's progress, they said.
Development of Surat railway station as a world-class station, better air connectivity for the city, improved patrolling in coastal areas, steps to support textile and diamond industries, are some of the key requirements of Surat, the two MPs added.
