Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan on Thursday demanded in the Rajya Sabha that action be taken against Radio Jockeys who joked about and mimicked MPs on air.

"The language used by radio jockeys on private channels is extremely objectionable. Now they've started giving news of the Parliament and they mimic a lot of MPs. I want to know whether the government will do something about it," Bachchan said.

Echoing Bachchan, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar also said that the matter was serious. He added that words with double meanings were not in 'good sense' and the government is considering action regarding the issue.

In Mumbai dna found that some radios stations had already been issued a gag order from either responding to the matter or a pre-emptive gag on talking about politics.

Speaking to dna, Radio Mirchi RJ Sana Sheikh said that they were instructed to not touch politics, so the Rajya Sabha discussion would not have an impact on them.

Red FM refused to comment on the matter.

RJs and stand-up comedians took to Twitter to discuss the issue.

Prakash Javadekar later tweeted that the government did not mind RJ's mimicking them, but it would look into 'vulgar' and 'double meaning' jokes.
