AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa on Thursday filed her nomination from the temple town of nearby Srirangam for April 13 Assembly elections, asserting that Tamil Nadu would become "an economic power" if her party was voted to power.

The former chief minister, who has switched over to Srirangam - where her family had roots before migrating to Mysore - from rural Andipatti, filed her papers at 11.05 am, before election officer P Gunasekaran.

She had asked her party candidates for the other 159 constituencies also to file their nominations on Thursday, considered auspicious.

Jayalalithaa was given a rousing reception when she arrived at the airport here by a special aircraft from Chennai.
