BJP today demanded immediate arrest and dismissal of vice-chancellor of Kashmir University Riaz Punjabi, alleging that the campus had become a den of anti-national activities.

"The latest example is the permission granted by the vice-chancellor to separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani to use the university premises for provoking anti-India sentiments," president of J&K unit of BJP Ashok Khajuria told reporters here.

Khajuria said Punjabi's dismissal has become more imperative as the University has been conducting itself like the Deoband School (Saharanpur), which recently adopted a resolution asking Muslims not to sing Vande Matram.

He also accused chief minister Omar Abdullah of giving the VC a free hand for permitting anti-national activities at the campus.

Geelani had yesterday visited the campus, for the first time in 20 years, and asked students and scholars to be ready to lead the struggle for freedom.
