The Jammu and Kashmir unit of CPI(M) today asked the state government to bear all expenses of treatment of two students, who sustained serious eye injuries in clashes following a recent unrest.
In a letter to chief minister Omar Abdullah, CPI(M) state secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said he was "appalled" to know about the "grievous eye injuries sustained by some youth including students."
"I am here specifically mentioning about two cases wherein two students belonging to Srinagar and Baramulla districts have suffered serious eye injuries, which if not treated immediately may result in permanent disability," Tarigami wrote in the letter.
The two students identified in the letter are Aamir Kabir Beigh of Old Town in Baramulla, an 18 year old student whose both eyes have been seriously damaged due to pellet gun injuries sustained on September 18, and Aabid Mushtaq of Buchpora in Srinagar, a ninth-class student who was allegedly fired a marble into the eye from a close range.
"The government should immediately take up these cases and bear the cost of their treatment. The government has to ensure that these students do not lose their eyesight for want of treatment," Tarigami said.
He also appealed to the chief minister to ensure that all the patients with eye injuries be identified for immediate specialised treatment.
