Raman, 93, who was admitted to a private hospital a few days ago died early today. He is survived by wife and two daughters.

Journalist and social activist Theruvath Raman, who set up the first eveninger in Malayalam, died today at a hospital here due to age related ailements, family sources said.

The founder editor of Pradeepam evening daily, Raman had left indelible mark in the socio-cultural arena in the city spanning over seven decades.

He served six months jail term for publishing an editorial in Kahalam weekly during the freedom struggle. Later he set up the first Malayalam eveninger, Pradeepam and remained as its editor for three decades.

He was member of International Press Institute and All India Editors Newspaper Conference Standing Committee besides founder member of the Press Academy.

He also became president of Small Newspaper Association and Vice-President of Indian Small and Medium Newspapers Association and other important positions.
