Kanimozhi allowed to attend Budget Session 2012

DMK MP Kanimozhi, facing trial for her alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation case, was today allowed by a Delhi court to participate in the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament.

Special CBI Judge OP Saini allowed Kanimozhi's plea to attend the session after the CBI did not oppose it.

The court permitted her subject to the condition that her counsel should "actually participate" in the judicial proceedings.

Kanimozhi was granted bail on November 28 last year by the Delhi High Court after she had spent over six months in Tihar jail following her arrest on May 20, 2011.

"It is submitted by Kanimozhi that she is a member of the Rajya Sabha and Budget Session of Parliament is commencing from today and she may be allowed to attend the same to which senior public prosecutor (of the CBI) has no objection.

"She is permitted to attend the session subject to the condition that her identity shall not be disputed and her counsel shall remain present in the court for participating in the court proceedings and shall actually participate in the court proceedings," the special judge said.

Kanimozhi, along with former Telecom Minister A Raja and others, including three telecom firms, are facing trial in the case.

During the day's proceeding, the court also recorded the statement of prosecution witness Mumbai's Deputy Registrar of Companies (RoC) Rajender Singh Meena.

During cross-examination, Meena was shown a document related to Tiger Traders (P) Ltd, alleged to be an associate of Reliance ADA Group. He said that there was no document showing accused Surendra Pipara, Group President of Reliance ADAG, as having been appointed as regular director of Tiger Traders (P) Ltd.

Meena, whose recording of statement would continue tomorrow, also told the court that as per the document, Pipara was shown appointed as additional director of Tiger Traders (P) Ltd.

"I have also been shown document. There is no document showing Surendra Pipara as having been appointed as regular director of Tiger Traders (P) Ltd," he said, adding, "At page 44 (of the document), Pipara has been shown appointed as additional director of Tiger Traders (P) Ltd as January 22, 2007."

He said as per Articles of Association of Tiger Traders (P) Ltd, no one has been mentioned to be the chairman of board of directors or of any particluar meeting of the company and or any special rights have been conferred on any director.

Meena said that he had sent to the CBI various documents which were downloaded from the system at Mumbai and Delhi in the RoC office.

During the proceeding, the court also allowed application of MD of Kalaignar TV Sharad Kumar, an accused in the case, for exemption from personal appearance for today only.
