As the annual Kanwar Yatra takes place, schools in Haridwar, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar, and Hapur will remain closed. The Yatra began on July 22 and will continue until August 6, 2024. In Ghaziabad, all schools and educational institutions will be closed from July 29 to August 2. The district administration announced this decision because of the large number of devotees expected to visit Ghaziabad’s Dudeshwar Nath temple.
Dharmendra Sharma, the district inspector of schools, said, "Over the next few days, the Yatra will see lakhs of devotees from across the state converge at Ghaziabad’s Dudeshwar Nath temple. On Shivratri, which falls on August 2 this year, the number of devotees is likely to swell to more than 10 lakh. So, the district magistrate has ordered the closure of all schools and higher educational institutions from Monday."
He also mentioned that any school violating this order will be penalised. In Ghaziabad, about 50 higher secondary and 80 primary schools are along the Kanwar route.
In Hapur, the administration has also declared a school holiday for all government and private schools until August 2, 2024. Schools in Hapur will be closed from July 26 to August 2.
Similarly, schools in Haridwar will remain closed from July 27 to August 2. The closure is due to the large number of devotees expected for the Kanwar Yatra.
