DMK president and chief minister M Karunanidhi today parried questions on reports that 2G spectrum money was routed to the party's first family owned Kalaignar TV, which maintained it has no links with the scam.
Speaking to reporters here, he said Kalaignar TV management had already issued a clarification and any further queries were "mischievous."
On AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa's demand that his family be made co-accused in the case, he sarcastically remarked that such demands were being made since he had a family.
Stepping up her attack on DMK, Jayalalithaa demanded that Karunanidhi and his family be included as co-accused in the case to unearth the "whole truth" behind the scam. "Only then will the interests of justice be served."
"It is an exhibition of scientific corruption that one sees as the 2G spectrum scam investigation unfolds," she said in a statement, referring to transfer of funds by some firms owned by Asif Balwa, arrested in connection with the scam.
Jayalalithaa claimed that the balance sheet for 2009-10 of Cineyug Films, owned by Balwa and Morani, showed an unsecured loan of Rs206 crore was given to Kalaignar TV, in which Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu and daughter Kanimozhi jointly hold 80% stake.
Kalaignar TV said earlier that it had no links with the 2G spectrum allocation scam in the wake of a submission by CBI in a Delhi court that there was a link between accused Shahid Usman Balwa-promoted Swan Telecom and the channel.
Balwa was allegedly favoured by former telecom minister A Raja in grant of UAS licence and scarce radio waves, according to CBI submission while seeking further remand of Raja.
"There is no link between the 2G spectrum allocation done in 2007-08 and the loan transaction that took place between Kalaignar TV and Cineyug Films private limited in 2009", the channel managing director Sharad Kumar said.
CBI had told the court: "It has also come to light that there was a transaction of Rs214 crore from M/s Cineyug Films private limited to Kalaignar TV in 2009." Kalaignar TV belongs to Sharad Kumar and others closely associated with Raja.
"The funds were arranged by M/s Cineyug Films from DB Group companies wherein the family members of Balwa are the directors or shareholders", CBI said in its application.
