The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Sunday sought to scotch rumours of a scuffle inside Tihar jail involving Kashmiri separatist Shabir Shah and said he is 'fit and fine'. Over the past few days speculation was rife that that Shah, incarcerated in Tihar since 2017, had been injured in a scuffle inside Tihar.

However, MHA put out a statement on Sunday evening refuting the speculation and said, "Tihar prison authorities in Delhi have denied occurrence of any untoward incident or mishap involving inmate Shabir Shah from Jammu and Kashmir.

Refuting fake news circulating in a section of media, DIG Tihar Prison, Shri Shailendra Parihar said Shabir Shah is absolutely "fit and fine". He said all other inmates from J&K and Pakistan are also fine. The Prison authorities appealed to all to be cautious against fake news.

However, sources confirmed it was another inmate Altaf Shah and not Shabir Shah who was injured in Tihar. According to sources, Altaf Shah was injured on his head after a loose tile fell on his head.
