Two workers of an automobile showroom were charred to death after a fire broke out in the outlet at Kharghar in neighbouring Navi Mumbai early today.

The fire broke out inside the showroom, situated on the ground floor of a 15-storey residential complex, at around 5.30 AM, a fire official said.

Six fire engines were rushed to the spot to douse the flames, the official said.

Fire fighting continued for about five hours, he said.

The deceased were identified as Krishna Kumar (22) and Jeetendra Kumar (26), said the official.

Both of them were sleeping inside the shop when the fire broke out. They were trapped inside the showroom and couldn't be rescued, the official said.

The entire showroom was gutted in the fire, the official said, adding the blaze was confined only to the ground floor.

Prima facie it appears that fire was caused due to a short circuit, said police.

However, a detailed probe in the matter will ascertain the exact cause of the fire, the official said.
