A kidnapped Manipuri advocate has been freed at Guwahati, almost a month after being taken away by militants from here, police sources said today.

MI Sharma was abducted while purchasing a washing machine from a shop at Nagamapal area, near his house, here on October 25 and was freed at Guwahati yesterday, the sources said.

The ultras, who had identified themselves as members of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP)- Wanglen Khuman group - first took Sharma to an unknown place and later to jungle hidouts in Assam and neighbouring North-Eastern states, he told the media after release.

Sharma said while he had faced extortion demands of as much as Rs 15 lakh from some militant factions in past, this time the KCP Wanglen group only wanted him to do some paper work for the outfit and no particular demand was made.

He said his abductors even wanted to take him to Singapore but since he did not have the passport, the plan had to be shelved.

Sharma took a Guwahati-Imphal flight after release from captivity last afternoon to reach here.
