NEW DELHI: Two police constables, who along with six other colleagues had allegedly extorted over Rs 19 lakh from an aide of kidney racket kingpin Amit Kumar, were on Tuesday sent to judicial custody till March 29 by a Delhi court.

Constables Rakesh Kumar and Naresh Kumar, who had surrendered before a Delhi court on Monday after evading arrest for nearly one and half months, were sent to jail for four days by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate A K Kuhar.

The two constables, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector Ravinder Kumar Singh had allegedly taken a bribe of Rs 19.85 lakh from Dr Upender, a close aide of Dr Amit, for letting him off after he was nabbed in connection with the infamous case.

The Economic Offence Wing of Delhi Police, which is probing the case, moved an application seeking judicial test identification parade (TIP) of the arrested constables by Dr Upender inside Tihar jail.

The court, however, asked the probe agency to move the application before Metropolitan Magistrate Chandra Shekhar.

Meanwhile, the court deferred the hearing on the bail plea of accused Naresh Kumar saying that the same would be heard at an appropriate stage.

According to the police, Dr Upender, an aide of the racket kingpin Dr Amit, had made a disclosure statement alleging that he paid money to the policemen. He also identified ASI Ravinder Kumar Singh in a test identification parade on February 18 at Tihar jail.

Seven policemen including Singh had allegedly extorted Rs 19.85 lakh from Dr Upendra, an accused in the Gurgaon kidney racket, for letting him and his driver to go escort free after being picked up in January.

Singh was arrested on February 14 while the other six accused -- head constables Devender Singh and Vijay Bahadur and constables Kaleem Beg and Surender Rathi -- who were posted at Special Staff in Central District are absconding.

The policemen have been booked under various sections of the IPC including 384 (extortion), 385 (putting persons in fear for extorting money), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
