An IIT PhD scholar, arrested allegedly for killing a teenaged girl from Nagaland, was a "psychopath" and "pervert", the Delhi police today told a court here.
The police, which cited opinions of medical experts and psychiatrists on the mental health of accused Pushpam Kumar Sinha, revealed these facts before metropolitan magistrate
Sourabh Pratap Singh Laler.
The plea by the police was an attempt to botch up the entire probe into the barbaric murder of the girl, advocate RA Worso Zimik, appearing for the victim's family, later told reporters outside the courtroom.
The court, meanwhile, remanded Sinha to 14 days of judicial custody till November 10 after he was produced before it on conclusion of his day-long custodial interrogation.
Sinha, 34, who is doing research in wave mechanics from IIT, Delhi, was arrested on October 25 for allegedly strangulating to death the girl at her second floor accommodation in South Delhi' Munirka.
A day before the incident, the girl was found dead at her residence. In an attempt to make the case of an accident, the accused had put her face on a gas burner.
The post-mortem report, however, suggested the girl was strangulated, forcing the police to conduct an elaborate inquiry into the incident.
The police questioned Sinha who broke down and confessed his role in the incident.
The accused, who had confessed his complicity in the offence, has to be interrogated further to unravel the entire chain of events in the case for which there was no direct
evidence, the police had earlier told the court.
