Ghosh, previously detained by the central agency for financial misconduct, remains in judicial custody until September 23. Additionally, Abhijit Mandal, the officer in charge of Tala police station, has been arrested. On August 26, the CBI conducted a second polygraph test on Ghosh as part of their investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor at a state-run hospital. Ghosh is currently in solitary confinement at Presidency Central Jail, where he was transferred earlier this week following a special court's order for his remand until September in connection with alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital. The CBI claims Ghosh embezzled funds and made 84 illegal appointments between 2022 and 2023.

The 31-year-old physician's body was discovered on August 9 in the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. According to autopsy reports, she had suffered a violent rape prior to her murder.
