West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s dream of making Kolkata into London just got a step further. While Kolkata Eye, a replica of London Eye, is a far-fetched dream for many, the city got its Big Ben this week. A clock tower at Lake Town came up this week that replicates the Big Ben of London.
The watchtower stands tall at 30 metres on the main road of Lake Town and has been developed by the South Dum Dum municipality. The tower will have retro watches on its four sides, provided by the Anglo Swiss Company.
The chairman of the South Dum Dum Municipality, Mriganka Bhattacharya and local MLA Sujit Bose took the initiative of constructing this watch tower. The total investment is close to Rs 1.5 crore in creating a replica of Big Ben.
The deadline to finish the watch tower was July. But better late than never.
