Kolkata: Massive fire at Dum Dum substation of CESC, now under control

As many as 10 fire tenders have been pressed into service.

A massive fire broke out at the Dum Dum substation of Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) on Friday. CESC is the sole power generation and distribution unit in Kolkata.

The fire broke out around 11.30 am and is fast spreading to the adjoining buildings. While three transformers have been gutted in the massive fire, the remaining two transformers may catch fire any moment.

Next to the substation lies an Indian Oil petrol pump. Senior officials have evacuated residential buildings in the area.

As many as 10 fire tenders have been pressed into service. According to latest information, fire has been now brought under control.
