Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and urban development body Kolkata Improvement Trust (KIT) would merge, newly-appointed municipal affairs and urban development minister Firhad Hakim said today.
"The KMC and KIT would merge to streamline urban development activities in the city," Hakim said.
Hakim also signed the transfer of Garden Reach Waterworks from Kolkata Metropolitan Water and Sanitation Authority (KMWSA) to KMC.
He said that an officer on special duty (OSD) would be appointed to monitor the progress of urban development projects under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme in the state.
Hakim alleged that central funds received for urban development projects had not been utilised by the previous government, for which projects did not take off.
