The West Bengal government today sought the Centre's permission for deploying CRPF for the Trinamool Congress rally on August 9 at Lalgarh to be addressed by its chief Mamata Banerjee.
"We are expecting clearance from the Centre soon," home secretary Samar Ghosh said here.
Stating that 35 companies are posted at Lalgarh at present, he said, the deployment pattern would be finalised by the West Midnapore Superintendent of Police.
The Trinamool Congress had yesterday submitted an application to the district administration seeking approval for the rally, he said.
While initially refusing permission for the rally on grounds of security, the state government, however, announced that it would allow the rally to be held under certain conditions.
The condition's included an early conclusion of the rally to enable the people return home in daylight, a fixed venue for it which could not be changed later and having a separate VIP enclosure.
However, the Trinamool Congress brushed aside the West Bengal government's imposition of conditions.
"What conditions? Whose conditions? We will not accept any conditions. Mamata will be going to Lalgarh as scheduled," Trinamool vice-president Subrata Mukherjee had told reporters yesterday.
