The Regional passport office in Mumbai had revoked Modi's passport on March 3 this year.

Sacked IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi today approached the Delhi High Court seeking expeditious hearing before the Ministry of External Affairs against the revocation of his passport by the Mumbai Passport Office for alleged foreign exchange violations.

An oral plea in this regard was brought before a bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Rajiv Shakdher which asked Modi's counsel to first file a petition before seeking urgent hearing of his case.

The bench said it was not the rule to mention the matter when the court was about to rise for the day and mentioning could be done only at 10:30am.

Senior Advocate Rakesh Tiku, appearing for Modi, told the court that "his appeal has been pending before the authority since August this year and no order has been passed yet".

Tiku said Modi has preferred an appeal before the Chief Passport Officer challenging revocation of his passport by Mumbai's Regional Passport office.

The Regional passport office in Mumbai had revoked Modi's passport on March 3 this year following Enforcement Directorate's probe into financial irregularities.

Modi is at present in London.
