Lankan navy attacks Tamil Nadu fishermen in Palk Strait

While fishermen in 17 boats were fishing near Katchathivu, they were surrounded by five Lankan Naval vessels whose personnel attacked them, the sources alleged, adding, they took away their catch.

Fishermen, who went into the sea from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, were attacked allegedly by Sri Lankan Navy near Katchathivu in the Palk Strait last night.

Fishermen Association sources said 670 mechanished boats set out for fishing yesterday. While fishermen in 17 boats were fishing near Katchathivu, they were surrounded by five Lankan Naval vessels whose personnel attacked them, the sources alleged, adding, they took away their catch.

Several boats returned to the shore with a poor catch, the sources added.
