Lankan Navy opens fire at Indian fishermen; two boats damaged
Two mechanised boats suffered extensive damage in the firing but the fishermen escaped unhurt.
Two boats carrying Tamil Nadu fishermen were damaged when Sri Lankan Naval men allegedly fired at them when they were fishing between Dhanushkodi and Katchativu in Palk Straits today. Local fishermen association president, Bilareans, said the Lankan Navy fired ten rounds, some in the air. Two mechanised boats suffered extensive damage in the firing but the fishermen escaped unhurt, he said. Fisheries department officials said they were not sure whether the fishermen had crossed into Lankan waters.
