Gandhi said that the law and order in the state 'has been 'surrendered to the goons'.

After the murder of journalist Vikram Joshi, and abduction-murder of a lab technician named Sanjit Yadav in Kanpur, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government over the handling of law & order in the state.

Gandhi said that the law and order in the state has been 'surrendered to the goons'.

"A new Gundaraja has arrived. Law and order in this jungle raj have surrendered to the goons," Priyanka Gandhi tweeted.

"The law and order situation in UP has collapsed. It is now being taken care of after common people are being killed. Be it home, road, office, no one feels safe. After Vikram Joshi, now abducted Sanjit Yadav in Kanpur," Gandhi added.

This development comes after the abduction and murder of a lab technician called Sanjeet Yadav in Kanpur.

Yadav was kidnapped from the Barra area on June 22 while he was returning home. A day later, on June 23, his family approached the police and registered a complaint in the case.

On June 29, the family paid ransom money of Rs 30 lakh in the presence of police, but the captors did not free the man.

His body was found dumped in the river

On July 20, a journalist Vikram Joshi died after being shot at by unknown miscreants near his residence in Vijay Nagar.

The incident occurred at 10:30 PM on July 20 (i.e. Monday), when Joshi was travelling in a motorcycle with his two daughters. The unidentified miscreants had used a firearm to attack the journalist in front of his daughters and the entire incident was caught on CCTV camera footage.

The attack came four days after Joshi had filed a complaint with Vijay Nagar Police Station stating that some men were harassing his niece.
