Senior BJP leader LK Advani today took a trip down memory lane and recalled the JP movement that saw the installation of the first-ever non-Congress government in the country.
He told election meetings at Silao and Arwal in Nalanda district about late Indira Gandhi promulgating Emergency following a court verdict disqualifying her from contesting elections for six years.
Recalling that Jayaprakash Narayan was put behind bars for spearheading the movement, Advani said, "People rallied behind him against the Congress for unleashing corruption in the country and the result was seen the world over."
In a dig at RJD for its alleged apathy towards development and without naming its chief Lalu Prasad, the BJP veteran said, "The person who used to earlier tell people that there was no need to construct roads because they were meant for motorcycles, is now promising development."
Referring to the RJD's 15-year-rule, Advani said unlike in the past when criminals were being patronised, thousands of them have been convicted and brought to justice in the past five years.
He said there was marked improvement in the situation ever since the NDA led by Nitish Kumar came to power.
The BJP leader said, "Nitish Kumar's talent and genius as railway minister were accepted. That was the reason the BJP acknowledged his worth and fully supported him to lead Bihar in 2005."
"I am sure the people of Bihar will reward Nitish with another term to accelerate the pace of development," he said.
He also favoured simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and assemblies.
