Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Madhya Pradesh unit president Brijmohan Shrivastava today described elections to the local bodies, to be held by the end of this year as an opportunity for the party to expand its base in the state.

Shrivastava, who recently left Congress to join the NCP, told reporters that he had only left his "mother's house and went over to her sister's place."

He said that he would work with a lot of interest for increasing the NCP's base in Madhya Pradesh and added that elections to the local bodies would be important for him.

Shrivastava said that he had left the Congress as he felt that would be unable to progress in that party and the NCP offered him better chances.
