Rabri Devi

Rabri Devi, is contesting for the Lok Sabha seat from the Rashtriya Janata Dal from Saran constituency of Bihar.

She served as the chief minister of Bihar for three terms between 1997 and 2005, succeeding her husband Lalu Prasad Yadav, after the revelation of the Fodder scam. The decision came under a lot of criticism and was considered very unexpected as she did not have any experience in politics and was a housewife disinterested in political affairs. It was also alleged that she was just being a ceremonial head and it was her husband who was actually controlling her decisions.

Devi hails from Bihar married Lalu Prasad Yadav at the age of 14, and has 9 children with him. She was the first woman chief minister of Bihar. She has subsequently the Member of the Legislative Council for the Bihar Vidhan Parishad.

Devi is in the fray from Saran constituency along with Balmukund Chauhan of BSP, Rajiv Pratap Rudy of BJP and Parmatma Singh of AAP. The fate of the candidates will be decided on May 7 when Bihar goes to polls in the 8th phase of 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.
