A student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Bombay), allegedly kidnapped a 23-year-old girl working as a software engineer at Infocity in Gandhinagar. Fortunately, Gandhinagar local crime branch (LCB) freed the girl, identified as Anamika Swarup, within hours and arrested the student.

The student, who orchestrated the abduction of Swarup on Sunday afternoon from Infocity campus, has been identified as Dara Hardayal Singh. Along with Singh, cops have also arrested three of his friends, who helped him in the abduction.

Investigations have revealed that Singh knew Swarup since a long time and was in love with her, a feeling that was not reciprocated.

Recently, Swarup, a native of Patna, shifted to Infocity campus in Gandhinagar and took up a job as trainee software engineer. She used to live in the hostel of Infocity.

On Sunday at around 1.30pm, Swarup was abducted in a white Tavera car when she was coming back to her hostel after having lunch at a nearby restaurant. When she was dragged into the car forcibly, Chirag Panchal who also works in Infocity, saw the incident and tried to rescue her by following the car on his bike.

He was unable to rescue her but the LCB officials swung into action after receiving his message and called all the nearby police stations to keep a close look out for a Tavera car having forged registration plate.

At the hostel cops found out that Swarup used to be harassed by Singh with frequent calls. After acquiring the call details, cops put Singh’s number on surveillance to track him down.

Meanwhile, at around 3.30pm, one of the police teams spotted the car near Thasra village in Kheda district. Cops forced the car to stop and freed Swarup from the clutches of Singh and his friends.

All the four accused were arrested by LCB and brought to Gandhinagar. According to LCB officials, Singh is a student of IIT-Bombay and might have kidnapped Swarup because of his one-sided feelings.
