A trough of low pressure lying over the South East Bay of Bengal is expected to result in more rains over coastal Tamil Nadu during the next one day, met officials said today.
Sharp summer showers lashed the city and its suburbs last night, providing much needed respite from the the sweltering heat as the mercury plummeted to about 30 degree celsius from around 37 degree celsius.
Periyakulam in Theni district recorded the maximum amount of rainfall of four centimetres during the last 24 hours ended at 8 am today, they said.
Weather officials said rain or thundershowers might occur over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 24 hours.
