In a rare case, doctors in Vadodara operated upon a 13-year-old girl, on Thursday to remove lump of hair weighing 1kg and 50 cm in size, from her stomach.
Doctors found an abdomen lump of hair from the stomach of the girl. She was suffering from a rare psychological disorder called Rapunzel syndrome, in which, a child eats hair.
On Monday, Chandan Bariya (13) of Sankariya village of Limkheda Taluka was admitted to the clinic of paediatric Samir Brahmbhatt. Chandan had complained of abdomen pain. On the basis of medical reports, surgeon IV Shah and team of other doctors decided to operate the girl to remove the lump.
Talking to DNA, Brahmbhatt, said "The girl was having a habit of eating hair, which is psychological disease called Rapunzel syndrome. Under this disorder, the girl used to eat hair. When the bulk of hair gets collected in abdomen, it results into stomachache and vomiting. The girl complained of the same and she had to be operated upon."
According to doctors, such condition is called Trichobezoar in medical term. This kind of psychological disorder has been found in the children below the age of 15, and that too, mainly in girls. The girl has been kept under observation for few days.
