The Madras High Court on Monday ordered authorities to permit a transgender who applied for the post of sub-inspector of police to participate in the viva voce subject to the outcome of the writ petition.
The first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice T S Sivagnanam directed the Tamil Nadu Uniform Services Recruitment Board to permit K Prathika Yashini to "go through the process of viva voce" to be held between September five and 28.
Yashini had cited a Supreme Court judgement wherein it was ordered that the state and central governments to take steps to treat transgender as socially and educationally backward citizens and extend them all kinds of reservation in the admissions to educational institutions and public appointments.
The bench in its interim order directed the authorities to allow her to appear for viva voce and further said that the same shall be subject to the outcome of the writ petition filed by Yashini and posted the matter for further hearing to November 3.
