BJP President Amit Shah's helicopter made an emergency landing at Ozar Airport in Maharashtra's Nashik on Saturday as he was on his way to address a poll rally in Akole.
The Union Home Minister was scheduled to address a rally in Ahmednagar district on the last day of campaigning for the October 21 Maharashtra Assembly polls when the pilot decided to land the chopper at Ozar airport at 2:25 pm due to inclement weather.
"After a halt of 40 minutes, the chopper took off at around 3:08 pm for Ahmednagar," an official was quoted as saying by PTI.
Several parts of Maharashtra have been facing rains since Friday.
Nationalist Congress Party chief (NCP) Sharad Pawar on Friday braved rainfall to address a public rally in Satara where the party is also contesting the Lok Sabha bypoll.
In 2019 parliamentary elections, the NCP had fielded Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendant of Shivaji Maharaj, from Satara who resigned to join the BJP after winning the seat. While the BJP has fielded Bhosale for the bypoll, the NCP has placed its bets on Shriniwas Patil.
NCP is contesting the Maharasthra Assembly elections in alliance with the Congress with both parties fielding candidates from 125 assembly seats each. The ruling BJP is contesting the election in an alliance with the Shiv Sena.
The polling for assembly elections in Maharashtra's 288 seats will be held on October 21. The counting of votes will take place on October 24.
