NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old domestic help was found dead in mysterious circumstances in her doctor employer's northwest Delhi home early on Saturday, police said.

Gimy Gotha, who was from Jharkhand, was found dead in the servant's quarter on third floor when her employer B.K. Gupta and his wife went to check on her in the morning after she did not come down for daily household chores.

The Guptas have a three-storeyed house in Ashok Nagar. The family stays on the first and second floors while the doctor runs his dental clinic on the ground floor. Gotha had worked in the house for 10 months.

Police said Gotha's room was bolted from inside, so Gupta's other servant went from the other side of the roof and opened the door. The family found her dead in her room with blood oozing out of her mouth. Her body was sent for post-mortem.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest Delhi) N.S. Bundela said there were injury marks on her body. “It seems she had put up a tough fight before she was strangled. At present, we cannot say whether she was raped or how many assailants were involved in the crime.

“We are not denying the role of other servant as well as the family in the murder. Everyone is under suspicion,” he added.

The police have however ruled out robbery as motive behind the murder, as her room was not ransacked. She had served food to the family on Friday evening before retiring to her room.

Police said the Guptas went to watch a movie after dinner. A case of murder has been registered at the Ashok Vihar police station.
