After remaining busy for a month with the West Bengal civic polls, railway minister Mamata Banerjee today attended the meeting of the Union cabinet, which she had skipped several times in recent days.
Banerjee actively participated in the discussions in the cabinet which cleared a number of proposals, including one on transfer of administrative control of Burn Standard Company and Braithwaite & Co to the railways from heavy industries and public enterprise ministry.
"There are certain financial issues which will be resolved later," she said about the proposal after the cabinet meeting.
Banerjee, the chief of Trinamool Congress, had not been attending Cabinet meetings for quite some time now as she would be in West Bengal for campaigning for the civic polls in which her party showed an impressive performance.
However, questions were raised when she did not attend the cabinet meeting on June one despite being in Delhi.
The meeting had decided on imposition of President's Rule in Jharkhand but Banerjee argued that she had "some serious job" to do.
"It depends on how serious is the meeting... Sometimes the ministers go, sometimes they have some other duty they do it. It is a very casual thing, nothing serious," she had said when reporters asked her about her absence from the cabinet meeting on that day.
