West Bengal's opposition Left Front Thursday accused the Mamata Banerjee government of committing a "crime" by exploiting the special investigating team (SIT) to suppress facts related to the Saradha scam.
"The state government is unwilling to go for any meaningful inquiry into the scam," leader of opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra said referring to the state police securing a court order to scuttle the centre-run Enforcement Directorate (ED) attempt to open a bank locker of Piyali Sen, the arrested wife of Saradha chief Sudipta Sen.
"The manner in which the SIT has bypassed the ED, it appears that the state government is trying to hide certain facts," he said.
However, police, despite its Tuesday night's hurried operation to break open the locker, sought to dismiss suggestion of any non-cooperation with the ED.
With the Supreme Court slated to hear out a public interest litigation seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the multi-crore rupee scam, Mishra hoped of a favorable verdict.
"We want a court monitored CBI probe so that the agency cannot be utilised as an instrument of the ruling," he said.
Mishra also accused the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party of going soft on the Trinamool asserting that they have kept their doors open for Banerjee's party.
To emphasise his point, the Marxist leader referred to lyrics of a popular Hindi film song, "Mera dar khula hai khula hi rahega tumahare liya (My doors are open and will remain open for you)."
