Rejecting the CPI(M)'s allegations that her party was using black money to fund the election campaign, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today said that the Left party was indulging in mudslinging.
"The CPI(M) is indulging in mudslinging and spreading canards as they have lost their balance and their end is near," Banerjee told an election meeting in north 24-Parganas district.
Criticising CPI(M) leader and state housing minister Gautam Deb for accusing the use of black money, Banerjee said, "we are not accountable to the CPI(M) which banks on lies and corruption to fight the election."
"If we can wrest power, we will probe all financial irregularities and scams in the state. No effort will be spared to unearth the unaccounted money stashed away by CPI(M) in banks," she said.
Banerjee alleged that the CPI(M) had misused official funds for election advertisements. "Lots of instances can be cited when the CPI(M) put up advertisements at government cost for political purposes in dailies, radio and TV."
She claimed that the hoax call impersonating chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was done at the at the instance of the CPI(M) itself.
Banerjee also flayed the BJP, which she said was contesting the elections to split votes in the state.
