SRINAGAR: Kashmir is in a shock after a man hammered his businessman father to death to become a legal heir to his wealth.
Zubair Nazir Mahajan alias Vicky, 22, was arrested with accomplice Suhail Ahmad Bhat on Tuesday for murdering Nazir Ahmad Mahajan, a big businessman of the Valley, on September 24.
Nazir’s mutilated body was found in a gunny bag in Raj Bagh on September 25, a day after his family lodged a “missing” report at the Khanayar police station.
SSP, Srinagar, Syed Afad-ul-Mujtaba said Vicky hatched a conspiracy with friend Suhail to murder his father in a bid to acquire family wealth and repay his debts. “When Nazir was attaching price tags to shawls in his shop, Suhail attacked him with a hammer. As Nazir fell to the ground, Zubair came in, gripped his father and asked Suhail to hit him again,” said Afad. #
The SSP noted that after committing the crime, Zubair left for home and also lodged a “missing” report with the police.
“We tracked the calls made from Nazir’s mobile and found out that it had been used by Suhail. We also tracked the calls of Zubair, which showed he was in constant touch with Suhail till his father disappeared,” he said.
Afad said the motive behind the murder was to acquire wealth and power. “Zubair wanted to be independent. He had transferred Rs4 lakh from his father’s account to his own and thought he could fulfil his ambition only by murdering his father,” he said.
