The 25-year-old man, who killed his 17-year-old paramour in Jawhar a couple of weeks ago, has said she was pestering him to divorce his wife.
The girl's body was found hanging from the ceiling of a hotel room on July 19, and her phone call records led to the arrest of Shankar Kashinath Bhogade on Friday.
Bhogade admitted that he had had sexual relations with the girl, who was a student of Std XI, after which she got pregnant. When she realised she had conceived, she demanded money from him to buy abortion pills.
"Bhogade said during interrogation that the girl threatened to end her life if he didn't divorce his wife and marry her. He also said that the girl insisted on unprotected sex," a Jawhar police official said.
Hoping to end the bother over the affair, he thought of killing her life and worked out a plan. He invited her to a hotel, where he made her consume a cold drink laced with poison in the name of giving her an abortion pill and then hung her body from a ceiling fan with her dupatta to make it appear to be a suicide.
The police initially registered a case of accidental death, but the girl's family demanded that they investigate the case.
The police say the store from where Bhogade purchased the poison is located near his residence. It seems that he had planned to commit the act some weeks ago, but could not as the girl did not come to meet him for some time.
Bhogade is charged with murder and rape under sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He has been remanded in police custody till Friday.
