The man, who inspired the name of Nintendo's video game character ' Super Mario', passed away at the age of 84.
The man named Mario Segale died on October 27 in the presence of his family, reported New York Post.
A heavy construction general contractor by profession had also rented out a warehouse which later went on to become Nintendo?s United States headquarters.
When video game giant Nintendo was planning to launch their game 'Donkey Kong' in the Western world, they had noticed similarities between the game's plumber protagonist and Segale. It is at this instant that the protagonist came to be known as Mario.
'Super Mario' is now the longest-running series which sold over 500 million copies during its lifespan. It earned the title of the best-selling video game franchise.
In a statement to Variety, Nintendo extended their condolences to Saegale's family after his sudden demise.
However, it is to be noted that Segale was not comfortable with his name being used for the game. He is survived by his 62-year old wife, Donna, four children, and nine grandchildren.
