The sources further stated that reinforcements were called in the area which is 100 km from Manipur’s capital Imphal.

The local terror outfit - People’s Liberation Army planned the attack. The terrorists first carried out an IED blast and then proceeded to open fire on the troops.

Reportedly, the separatist outfit is receiving regular financial aid and weapons from China, thereby sustaining its network in the north-east.

The Indian intelligence agencies reported that the aid is among many other factors because of which there has been an insurgency in the region for several decades.

According to government data, Assam Rifles lost more than 750 personnel and officers in the battle against insurgency.

Earlier this year,  the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed chargesheet against six PLA terrorists for the attack on an Assam Rifles personnel in Manipur in 2017.
