Manmohan Singh leaves for G8 Summit in Germany

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left Wednesday for Germany on a three-day visit to attend the G8 Outreach Summit at the Baltic resort of Heiligendamm.

The prime minister is also scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings in both Berlin and Heiligendamm with leaders including US President George W. Bush, Chinese President Hu Jintao and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the chair of the G8 Summit.

India, Brazil, China, Mexico and South Africa are the five countries taking part in the Outreach Summit, whose leaders are special invitees to the G8 Summit of the world's most industrialized and influential nations, where the focus would be on issues like climate change, world economy, global trade talks, cross-border investment and health.
