Seema Sashastra Bal (SSB) personnel have arrested a Nepali Maoist leader from near the Indo-Nepal border in the district, police said today.
He was arrested from Banbasa area along with a pistol last evening by the SSB personnel manning the Indo-Nepal border in the district, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Champawat D R Arya said.
A total of 13 prisoners, including Maoist insurgents, fled from a high security jail in Kanchanpur district of Nepal recently following which an alert had been sounded along the Indo-Nepal border, he said. The centre has been informed about the arrest, he said.
