On the backdrop of recent incidents of violence in the ongoing Maratha quota agitation, descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the Member of Parliament Udayanraje Bhosale today warned the government that it should not delay in announcing reservation for Maratha community otherwise the agitation will turn extremely violent on the lines of Naxalite movement which no one will be able to control.
The Maratha organisations have announced massive protest across the state on 'Kranti Din', that is on August 9.
Ahead of the statewide protest, various organisations held a meeting in Pune on Sunday which was chaired by Bhosale.
Speaking about the decisions taken in the meeting, Bhosale said, "During the agitation, we have seen some protesters committing suicide while some resorted to violence. Today's meeting was called am aim to appeal the protesters not to take any extreme step of ending their lives and also not to take law into their hands."
Bhosale, however, warned that the protesters are not in a mood of listening to anyone and therefore, urged the government to take the decision on the issue of giving reservation to Maratha community soon. "The movement is on the verge of going out of hand and therefore the government must not delay its decision further. If it takes more time, the same movement will not take much time to convert into a violent movement like the Naxal movement," he said.
Stating that the onus of giving reservation to Maratha community is on government, judiciary, and bureaucracy, Bhosale said, "The community has waited for reservation for 30 years and it has seen government, judiciary and bureaucracy pointing fingers at each other when it comes to taking decision. Now, the time has come where these three pillars of democracy come together and taken the decision on giving reservation for the community. If they can not give the reservation to the community, they should at least make it clear before the community."
He made it clear that the community is not demanding to scrap of reservation for other communities. "We are saying that the existing reservation for the other communities should not be scrapped. Our demand is to give reservation to Maratha community on the basis of its existing population," he said.
